Footnote: The Oman General Service Medal (Midal al-Khidmat al-Alamat) was instituted by Sultan Said bin Taimur in 1959, as a reward for general military service. This issue was originally intended to serve as a multi-purpose Omani GSM for service of at least six weeks. However, with the Dhofar Rebellion (May 23, 1965 to June 20, 1976), the medal was awarded with the Dhofar clasp (the only clasp ever issued with the medal) and awarded by the Omani Government for fourteen days of consecutive service, thirty days of visits, or service abnormally terminated by wounds between the stated dates in areas of the Dhofar Province. The ribbon has equal bands of red, off-white, and green representing the three regiments of the Omani army: the Muscat Regiment (red), the Northern Frontier Regiment (green) and the Desert Regiment (sand).
