Description
Vintage horse brass with a Cornish Pixie sitting on a tree stump holding a lantern and looking very mischievous.
There is a Rd number on the back which looks like ?21710, in the past I have had an identical pixie brass and the first number was an 8 which dates it to 1937.
The patina reflects the age of this horse brass.
A pixie is a mythical creature of folklore. Pixies are considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon.
Pixies may be small, but they are rich in magical power. They often use their powers to bring a smile to the face of a human friend.
A horse brass is a brass plaque which was used used for the decoration of horse harness gear, especially for shire and parade horses.
Horse Brasses became very popular in England between the mid-19th century until their decline alongside the use of the draft horse, but they have now become a collectors item and they make lovely wall hanging and often can be found decorating pub and Inn walls.
